Skill – Ability – Talent – 能力・才能を 英語で表現

talent – 才能

talent は 生まれつきの 特殊稀な才能です。
形容詞の talented は 才能豊かな を意味します。

talent 才能素質
ex) I have no drawing talent.
絵画の才能がない

talent /ˈtælənt/: a special ability that allows someone to do something well
ex) She’s a singer with an enormous amount of talent.

talented 才能豊かな
ex) As a writer, she is enormously talented.
作家として 彼はたいへん 才能に恵まれている

talented /ˈtæləntəd/: having a special ability to do something well : having talent
ex) He’s a highly talented athlete.

ability – 能力

ability生来持って生まれた 能力です
形容詞の able は 有能な を意味します

ability  (生まれつきの)能力才能
ex) She has shown some ability with foreign languages.
彼女は 外国語の才能を 披露した

ability /əˈbɪləti/ : the power or skill to do something
ex) There are even more robust ways to discover your unique talents and abilities.

skill – 能力・技量

skill学習等により 得た能力です。
形容詞の skillful は 熟練した を意味します。

skill 能力技量
ex) The position requires little skill and knowledge.
その職位は 技量や 知識をほとんど必要としない

skill /ˈskɪl/: the ability to do something that comes from training, experience, or practice
ex) I was impressed by her skill at writing.
= I was impressed by her skill as a writer.

skillful 熟練した経験豊富な
ex) He is skillful at diplomacy.
彼は外交に長けている

skillful /ˈskɪlfəl/: having the training, knowledge, and experience that is needed to do something well
ex) He’s an artist skillful in the use of color.

capability – 能力・技能

capability は 課題、仕事を こなす能力です。
形容詞の capable は 手腕 があることを意味します。

capability (行動で示す)能力
ex) Students are expected to participate in sports according to their capabilities. = abilities
生徒たちは 運動能力に合った スポーツ競技に参加することが 望まれている

capability /ˌkeɪpəˈbɪləti/: the ability to do something
ex) The device has the capability of recording two television channels at once.

capable (実行する)能力がある
ex) Many new cell phones are capable of connecting to the Internet.
