フライドポテト (fried potatoes) は 和製英語です。
英語圏の マクドナルドでは フライドポテト (fried potatoes) とは 呼ばず フレンチフライ(french fries) と言います。

フレンチは フランス（French)でなく、細く切られた、の意味。 (french–fried: fried in deep fat)
細長く切られた フライドポテトが、フレンチフライ（french fries)　です。
また french fries は、省略されて fries と 呼ばれることもあります。

french は 固有名詞ではないので、french fries と 頭文字は小文字の表記　(using french fries in lowercase) です。
