Wait / Wait for に関する よくあるご質問
A. wait 3 hours、wait for 3 hours どちらでも 大丈夫です。
□ wait (for) … minutes … 待つ
ex） We’ll wait (for) five minutes before our table is ready.
テーブルの準備が出来るまで ５分待つでしょう
wait /ˈweɪt/: to stay or remain in one place until something happens
ex) Take a seat and wait for your name to be called.
ex) We’ll have to wait another 10 minutes before getting into the theater.
劇場に入場するまで あと10分 待たなくてはならないでしょう
wait /ˈweɪt/: to stay in a place until an expected event happens, until someone arrives, until it is your turn to do something, etc.
ex) They waited at the train station together.

□ I can’t wait. （楽しい事など）待ちきれない
ex) I just can’t wait to go swimming!

can’t wait /ˈweɪt/: be very eager, anxious, or impatient
ex) We can’t wait for the baseball season to begin.

waiting room : a room provided for the use of people who are waiting to be seen by a doctor or dentist or who are waiting in a station for a bus or train.

* Wait up! は Wait の カジュアル (less formal – more colloquial) な表現
wait up /ˈweɪt/: To stop or pause so that another can catch up
ex) The leader of the hike waited up for the stragglers.
ex) Have I kept you waiting long?
長く待たせましたか？
* Sorry to have kept you waiting は 自分が丁度 到着した時、待たせた相手に 詫びる表現です。（完了形）
Sorry to keep you waiting は 自分が まだ到着しておらず、待たせている 相手に詫びる表現です。
ex) Sorry to keep you waiting, I will be with you in a minute.
待たせてごめんなさい あと 数分で到着します

ぎりぎりまで 待ってはいけない （延ばしてはいけない）
wait until /ənˈtɪl/: used to emphasize that a future event is going to be very surprising, important, troublesome, etc.
ex) Wait till you see their new house.
ex) We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
成り行き（様子）を 見守ることになるでしょう
wait and see /ˈsiː/: to act with caution and patience until something happens.
ex) I guess I just have to wait and see until the doctor calls with the test results.
ex) Is anyone waiting on this table?
（レストランで） このテーブルを担当している人は いますか？
wait on: to serve food or drinks as a waiter or waitress to (someone)
ex) The hostess waits on tables/people when the restaurant is crowded.
□ waiter 仕える人 = 給仕 = ウエーター
ex) Waiters have to seat a customer and take the order.
ウエーターは 客を 席に座らせ、注文を取らなければならない
waiter /ˈweɪtɚ/: a man who serves food or drinks to people in a restaurant
ex) The waitress didn’t come right away.
ex) How long is the wait?
待ち時間は どの位でしょうか？
ex) What do you think is a reasonable maximum wait time?
レストランで 最長どれ位の待ち時間に 耐えられますか？
